| so soon after July 4, we learn DEMOCRACY DOESN'T WORK, at least not here in the US of A(ss) |

Yeah, I'm still furious about health care, so thank God for news sources that stir the bitter in with the raging sarcasm:
In short, the lesson of today’s health care anger-parsing cycle is that if the Democrats want to pass a reform bill with 60 Senate votes, the final product Obama signs will probably just be to mail every American a pistol and a single bullet with a little note saying, “For when you get cancer.”
I couldn't have said it better myself.
My personal health care plan is to hope I gain citizenship to Canada, the Netherlands, or some other country with same-sex spousal benefits and a public health care program by legally marrying some nice, handsome Canadian, Dutch, whathaveyou. It's a hell of a lot more feasible than expecting the Democrats to actually do anything other than kowtow before health industry lobbyists. |

But didn't Obama say that a public option would be the best way to lower costs, etc.?
It would be great if Obama said he would only sign a bill with a public option, period, but he probably hasn't said anything like that yet because that would scare away Democrats that wouldn't support a public option. :/
When I reconstitute Baron Ungern von Sternberg's Order of Military Buddhists and take over this country in the name of Kalki, I'll make sure that everyone gets unlimited free health care. (Except for the Republicans, who will get what they want and get it good and hard.)
Also, at the library today I took a shufti at the latest Atlantic Monthly, and wish I hadn't. The big Bill Buckley hagiography particularly galled me...
I seem to remember the Atlantic being vaguely centrist and have no idea what happened.
Now it seems to be right-slanted Libertarian, of a particularly irritating ilk.
Incidentally, I'm going to add you, hope you don't mind.
It got bought out by a Libertarian millionaire, who gave Andrew Sullivan carte blanche over its editorial functions. It's still losing money, but, of course, now it's on life support provided by wingnut/Libertarian welfare.
Oh, so it's the Washington Times only glossy paper now.
Pretty much, but with "Ayn Rand for Hipsters and Yuppies" thrown in. | |
